Jordan Pickford revealed David Moyes’ inspiring message for Everton to become a “proper team” by winning at Manchester United, celebrating a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford despite playing with ten men and moving past Idrissa Gueye’s sending off.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has revealed the inspirational pre-match message delivered by manager David Moyes before the side’s 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford, according to a report from the Liverpool Echo.
The crucial win was achieved despite Everton playing with 10 men for 77 minutes following Idrissa Gueye’s sending off for slapping teammate Michael Keane.
Pickford, who secured his first career win at Old Trafford, emphasized the collective effort required to earn the three points.
He stated: “It’s a great win, great performance. Some good football as well, but suffering at times as a team. If you’re suffering the right way, you get results.”
The England international went on to attribute their crucial performance to the manager’s rallying cry:
“The manager said before the game, ‘you want to be a proper team, you want to push up the table, tonight’s the time to go and stamp your authority on it and get a result’. We know it’s not as easy as that, but we gave what the gaffer wanted and we got our rewards.”
The match-winner came from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s spectacular 29th-minute strike.
Pickford highlighted the effort shown by the entire squad, noting that the “full team performance” was “the Everton way,” with players “digging in, putting blocks in, challenges, clearing and suffering.”
Addressing the early incident between his teammates, Pickford confirmed the issue was handled swiftly:
“Initially I didn’t see what happened. I just saw them arguing. But the main thing is that Idrissa has come in and apologised – half-time or full-time I can’t remember.
It doesn’t look nice ever, but we move on from it and the main thing is we’ve got the win.”
The result provides the Blues with crucial momentum moving forward into a busy period.
