Neville blasts ’embarrassing’ and complacent United

Gary Neville has slammed Manchester United’s ’embarrassing’ and complacent performance in their shock 1-0 defeat to a 10-man Everton side at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville lambasted the club’s 1-0 defeat to Everton, calling the performance an “embarrassment at times,” according to a report from The Independent.

The result was particularly galling as Ruben Amorim’s side played 77 minutes against 10 men after Idrissa Gueye was sent off in the 13th minute for slapping his own teammate, Michael Keane.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s strike on the half-hour mark secured the win for the visitors, leaving United struggling to create chances.

Neville dismissed any mitigating factors for the poor display. He stated: “It was nowhere near good enough,” and “Forget [the injuries to Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha], there are no excuses.

I’m not entertaining that one bit.” He credited Everton for dominating through “their fight and their spirit.”

Expanding on his critique, Neville diagnosed the core issue as attitude: “It’s complacency, and complacency will kill you.” He warned that the result would “erode confidence, it erodes trust” in what Amorim is trying to achieve.

Neville concluded by noting that the fans “booed collectively at the end. It was loud, and rightly so.” The defeat ensured United missed the chance to jump into the Premier League top four.
