Arne Slot expressed deep guilt and labeled the team’s dismal Premier League form as ‘ridiculous’ ahead of their Champions League match against PSV, emphasizing a critical breakdown in defensive set-piece execution.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot gave a brutally honest assessment of his team’s recent Premier League form, describing it as “ridiculous” and “unbelievable,” according to reports from the Daily Mail and Sky Sports.
This comes as the reigning Premier League champions prepare to host PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Reds’ domestic season has reached a low point after a dismal run saw them lose six of their last seven top-flight games, culminating in a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
This slump has seen Liverpool drop to 11th in the league table after 12 matches—the first time the club has been in the bottom half in a decade—and leaves them 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Addressing the media, Slot pointed to a glaring drop-off in defensive solidity compared to their title-winning campaign.
He stated: “Last season, we had let in zero set‑pieces at this time. This season, it’s nine.” He added, “The number of goals we concede is the big difference between this season and the last.”
Despite the domestic struggles, where he admitted, “I take the responsibility and feel guilty for it,” the team has fared well in the Champions League, recording three wins and one loss in their opening four group-stage fixtures.
Sources indicate that Slot, who won the Premier League in his debut season, still holds “credit in the bank,” and the club is “not looking to change their head coach.”
Slot insists the adversity will strengthen the club, saying, “The harder it gets at this club, the more we are together.”
