Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has boldly claimed that the Blues are now the favourites to win the Champions League this season, following their convincing 3-0 victory over Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.
According to a report from Chelsea News by Simon Phillips, Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has staked a brave claim, stating that his side should now be considered the favourites to lift the Champions League trophy this season.
This statement follows Chelsea’s dominant 3-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League league phase.
The victory, which saw goals from Liam Delap and Estevao Willian, was a statement performance for the Blues, who showed “more desire and more intent all game” compared to their Spanish opponents.
Sanchez himself had a “very quiet game indeed,” as Barcelona offered minimal threat to his goal, particularly after the sending-off of Ronald Araujo.
The goalkeeper’s assertion directly challenged the status of their defeated opponents. Sanchez was quoted by Fabrizio Romano as saying after the game:
“Barça among the favourites to win the Champions League? No, I see us as favourites.”
While manager Enzo Maresca is expected to downplay such bold predictions and avoid piling unnecessary pressure on the team, the convincing nature of the victory has led many to agree that Chelsea does have a decent chance of winning the tournament.
The result was a “huge win for Chelsea” that saw them emphatically pass a major European test.
