Harry Kane, ahead of Bayern’s Champions League clash with Arsenal, expressed his declining enjoyment of Premier League football due to an overreliance on set-pieces, a tactic he directly attributes to his former rivals, Arsenal.
Bayern Munich star Harry Kane delivered a “sly dig” at his former north London rivals Arsenal ahead of their Champions League clash, linking the Gunners to a recent “set-piece craze” that has made the Premier League “less enjoyable.”
Bayern Munich talisman Harry Kane admitted that he finds watching Premier League football “less enjoyable” due to a recent set-piece trend which he directly linked to Arsenal.
According to a report from Sports Illustrated FC, the former Tottenham Hotspur star made the comments ahead of the Champions League match between Bayern and Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
Both clubs have won all four of their league phase matches thus far in the competition.
The England captain commented on the evolution of football, sighing, “Watching the Premier League is probably a little less enjoyable than what it has been in recent years, to be honest, but that’s kind of the evolution of football.”
He then specifically targeted his upcoming opponents, stating, “Sometimes it comes in like this and that’s the case this year. Arsenal have capitalised on that and are a really strong set-plays team.”
The Gunners boast an unrivaled 10 set-piece Premier League goals this season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was asked if he feared the ruthless finisher, who holds the record for all-time top scorer in the 104-year history of the north London derby, and replied, “I wouldn’t use that word.”
He added, “I admire what he has done and what he continues to do, and the level of consistency.”
Kane, who has a staggering record of 15 goals in 21 games against Arsenal, downplayed Bayern’s tactical focus, shrugging, “We’ve done our normal preparation that we do in every game.” He emphasized the best way to combat the threat is by “not giving set plays away.”
