Stamford Bridge erupted in cheers as Estevao Willian, beaming, described his solo goal against Barcelona as the ‘most special moment’ of his burgeoning career, a strike that helped Chelsea secure a decisive 3-0 Champions League victory.
Amid scenes of celebration inside Stamford Bridge, Estêvão Willian put into words the significance of his stunning solo effort that helped Chelsea secure a 3-0 victory over Barcelona.
According to a report from Chelsea FC’s Official Site, the 18-year-old confirmed that the strike—his third in three Champions League starts—would live long in his and Chelsea supporters’ memory.
The goal saw Estêvão receive a pass 25 yards from goal, advance into the area, jink past Pau Cubarsi, hold off Keita Balde, and thundering a shot into the roof of the net past the helpless Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
This effort doubled Chelsea’s advantage, which was established by a Jules Kounde own goal, and was later added to by Liam Delap’s first Champions League strike.
Estêvão’s goal made him only the third teenager to score in each of their first three Champions League starts.
Speaking shortly after the final whistle, the Brazilian international was ecstatic:
“It was definitely the most special moment in my career and I hope I keep scoring more in the years ahead. I’m so happy, also because my family were here watching as well.”
He offered a quick description of the action, adding: “The goal was all very quick; it happened before I knew it. I saw the space, wiggled my way through and scored.”
The teenager, whose name was sung throughout the match, expressed his gratitude to the Chelsea faithful:
“From the moment I arrived at Chelsea, I have felt a connection with the fans. I’m just so happy I can score for them and I hope there are many more.”
