Adebayo Akinfenwa critical of Milos Kerkez after PSV goal

Football pundit Adebayo Akinfenwa sharply criticized Liverpool defender Milos Kerkez for his defensive lapse leading to PSV Eindhoven’s second goal in their recent Champions League match at Anfield.

According to a report from Empire of the Kop, Liverpool defender Milos Kerkez came under “highly critical” fire from former professional striker and staunch Reds fan Adebayo Akinfenwa following his performance in the Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven.

The visitors took a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute when Mauro Junior delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Guus Til, who maneuvered “on the inside of Milos Kerkez” before slotting the chance past Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The goal came after Liverpool had recovered from a poor start, which saw Virgil van Dijk give away a “stupidly” soft penalty, swiftly cancelled out by Dominik Szoboszlai’s equalizer.

Akinfenwa, in “venting his fury over the second PSV goal,” immediately took to X, where he publicly called out the Liverpool left-back for failing to reach the ball first.

Akinfenwa’s post was succinct, stating: “I’m sorry but Kerkez needs to do & be better. It’s really not good enough.”

The report noted that while the Hungarian defender, who joined from Bournemouth in the summer, has “shipped quite a bit of criticism,” he had actually been “one of our better players in the first half tonight,” even being credited by the Liverpool Echo for having “showed fight during [the] dire opening.”

Unfortunately, his decisive lapse saw him “switch off at the crucial moment,” a failure so clear that Sky Sports reporter Adam Bate observed that the player’s teammates looked at him “in horror” after Til scored, suggesting that the left-back’s “nightmare” at Anfield was continuing.
