Aston Villa secured a polished 2-1 victory over BSC Young Boys in the UEFA Europa League, extending their winning streak to four consecutive matches across all competitions, according to a report from the official Aston Villa FC website.
The breakthrough came after 27 minutes when Youri Tielemans, wearing the captain’s armband, delivered a cross that was headed home by Donyell Malen to break the deadlock.
Malen was not done, doubling his tally with a crisp finish shortly before half-time, having been played through by Morgan Rogers, marking his sixth goal of the season.
Despite the 2-0 lead, the hosts endured a nervy conclusion. A moment of worry occurred in the 70th minute when Chris Bedia saw a goal disallowed for offside after VAR intervention.
However, Young Boys finally gained a lifeline in the 90th minute when substitute Joel Monteiro sprung the offside trap, chested the ball down, and lashed a shot past Martínez.
Despite the late goal making for an anxious stoppage time, Villa secured the three points, ensuring they will be level on points at the top of the standings heading into Matchday Six against Basel in December.
The starting XI for the match featured seven changes from the previous Sunday’s squad.
