Hannibal Mejbri’s FA spitting charge deadline passes

The deadline for Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri to respond to an FA misconduct charge for allegedly spitting at Leeds United supporters has now passed.

Burnley’s deadline to respond to the FA charge against midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has now passed, according to a report from the Burnley Express.

The 22-year-old was charged with misconduct last month following allegations that he spat at Leeds United supporters during the game at Turf Moor on October 18.

The incident in question is said to have occurred earlier in the second half while Hannibal was warming up, though he later came on as an 83rd-minute substitute during Burnley’s 2-0 win.

Both the FA and Lancashire Police launched investigations after a complaint was filed by a Leeds fan in the away section of the Cricket Field Stand.

An FA statement confirmed the basis of the charge, saying:

“It is alleged the player acted in breach of the laws of the game and/or in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or indecent behaviour by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters around the 67th minute.”

The statement noted that Hannibal Mejbri had until Friday, November 28 to provide a response.

Burnley boss Scott Parker declined to comment on the matter when asked about the investigation in late October, stating:

“There’s a live investigation going on regarding that, so I can’t really comment on that at this present moment in time.”

After the FA charge was confirmed, Parker noted: “I think we’re in a process of responding to that charge.”
