Dominik Szoboszlai is walking a disciplinary tightrope and risks a one-match suspension for the upcoming clash against Sunderland if he receives another booking in the match against West Ham United.
According to a report from LiverpoolWorld, midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is facing a potential one-match suspension that could see him miss Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Sunderland.
The Hungary international, described as Liverpool’s “best player this season, without a doubt,” is currently on four bookings in the league, placing him one yellow card away from a ban.
Szoboszlai has received cautions in matches against Everton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Manchester City. Per the FA’s disciplinary rules, “any player who earns five bookings from their side’s first 19 Premier League matches of a season will have to serve a one-match ban in the same competition. Premier League yellow cards are not carried over to the EFL Cup or FA Cup”.
If Szoboszlai is booked during the upcoming league match against West Ham United at the London Stadium, he will be suspended for Sunderland’s visit to Anfield on Wednesday.
The report notes that Sunderland will be heading into the game following a 3-2 triumph over AFC Bournemouth, having fought from behind after trailing by two goals inside 15 minutes.
The possibility of Szoboszlai’s absence comes as Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is in the “territory of needing results on a fixture-by-fixture basis after nine losses in 12 games in all competitions.”
The pressure is high, with the focus on getting a tune out of the team against West Ham, as the team is struggling after having “surrendered [the] title before December.”
Right-back Conor Bradley is also on four yellow cards, but is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
