Mason Greenwood’s strong performances at Marseille have reignited Napoli’s interest, potentially leading to a reunion with former Manchester United teammates Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund in Italy.
According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, the transfer future of former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has taken a “fresh twist” with Napoli reportedly among the clubs interested in securing his services.
Greenwood, 24, departed Manchester United in the summer of 2023 after the club concluded that “it would be most appropriate for him” to restart his career at another club, following the dropping of all charges against him by the Greater Manchester Police on February 2.
The player joined Marseille and has since made 54 appearances for the French club. His performance has reportedly “caught the eye of several clubs,” with Calcio Mercato reporting Napoli’s interest.
However, any deal may prove difficult, as Marseille’s valuation is said to be over €60million (£53m). Napoli previously attempted to sign Greenwood prior to his move to Marseille, but were unsuccessful.
If Napoli is successful in securing the transfer, Greenwood would be reunited with former United teammates Scott McTominay—who was named the club’s Player of the 2024/25 season—and Rasmus Hojlund, who is on a loan-to-buy deal at the Italian side.
Marseille coach Roberto de Zerbi praised the player, stating:
“He has the qualities to become one of the best players in the world. He’s incredibly talented, but he still needs to be even more useful for the team.”
