Moises Caicedo reveals reason behind failed move to to Arsenal, Liverpool

The intricate details of Moises Caicedo’s dramatic transfer window are revealed, shedding light on why moves to Arsenal and Liverpool ultimately collapsed before his record-breaking switch to Chelsea.

According to a report from Fotmob.com, Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has explained the decisions surrounding his failed transfers to Arsenal and Liverpool before he completed his £115million move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023.

When discussing how close he came to joining Arsenal during the 2023 winter transfer window, Caicedo confirmed his near-move, stating:

“Everything happens for a reason. I almost did it but now I’m here and I’m so happy. The timing was good.”

Arsenal’s bid, reported to be around £60million, was rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion, who held firm on their valuation.

Caicedo further confirmed his rejection of Liverpool, who had successfully agreed a £111m fee with Brighton later that summer. The deal collapsed because the Ecuadorian midfielder had already set his sights on West London.

“I waited until Chelsea came for me. People laughed. They said I chose the wrong place, but sometimes you need time to adapt to a big team. I needed that.”

He concluded by stressing his commitment to his current club:

“I want to give everything to this club because they didn’t doubt me. I chose Chelsea because they have ambitions. I want to win trophies—more trophies with this club.”
