Manchester United faces losing Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui this month for the Africa Cup of Nations, forcing Ruben Amorim to reshuffle the squad for a challenging winter fixture list.
According to a report from UnitedInFocus, FIFA has set a new release date of December 15 for players called up to AFCON, rather than the originally expected early December.
This adjustment means Manchester United could still field Mbeumo, Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui in fixtures scheduled ahead of that date — easing the club’s immediate squad concerns.
The timing comes as AFCON begins on December 21 and runs through January 18, a period during which United risk losing key attacking and defensive options.
Previously, manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged the challenge, noting United could “struggle a little bit” without their African stars but also viewed it as an “opportunity” for other players to step up.
With the revised release schedule, United have a narrow window to make the most of their full-strength squad before AFCON begins.
The decision offers short-term relief — though the club will still need to plan for a prolonged absence if those players progress deep into the tournament.
