West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo slammed VAR, claiming his side was denied a victory by two mistakes, including a missed high boot on Konstantinos Mavropanos in the buildup to Brighton’s late 1-1 equalizer, a feeling supported by a former FIFA referee.
West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo was furious after a stoppage-time equalizer by Georginio Rutter secured a 1-1 draw for Brighton.
The manager believed his side was denied a crucial Premier League victory due to what he called “two VAR mistakes,” citing a potential handball and a high boot to the head of Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Nuno stated, “It’s not ‘appears’, it’s clear. I saw it, everybody saw it. We cannot understand how they gave the goal.”
Despite the Premier League defending the VAR check, a former FIFA referee agreed that Nuno was right to be “seething,” validating the club’s anger over the high boot on Mavropanos that was dismissed by officials.
