Kane’s late penalty salvages draw for Bayern Munich against Mainz

Bayern Munich moved nine points clear atop the Bundesliga despite being held to a 2-2 draw by bottom-side Mainz 05, with Harry Kane converting a late penalty to score his 18th league goal and rescue a point.

Bayern Munich secured a late draw against bottom-placed Mainz 05, extending their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to nine points, according to a report on the match.

The leaders opened the scoring through youngster Lennart Karl in the 29th minute. However, Mainz quickly responded with an equalizer from Kacper Potulski’s header just before the break, following William Boving’s free-kick.

The visitors took a shock 2-1 lead in the 67th minute when Jae-sung Lee scored a sublime header from a chipped pass by Stefan Bell, leaving Manuel Neuer stranded.

With three minutes remaining, Harry Kane earned a penalty after being pulled down by Potulski. The England captain converted the spot-kick, his 18th league goal and 80th in the division, to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Vincent Kompany’s side next travel to Heidenheim on Sunday.
