Jamie Carragher predicts Enzo Maresca will not be Chelsea manager next season, stating the coach’s public comments about feeling unsupported—which drew comparisons to Mohamed Salah—constitute a “big problem.”
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca recently described the 48 hours following the 2-0 victory over Everton as his “worst 48 hours” at the club.
This outburst came after Wayne Rooney likened him to Mohamed Salah. Maresca stated: “This is the reason why I praise the players because with so many problems they are doing very well after a complicated week.
The last 48 hours has been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn’t support us.”
Pundit Jamie Carragher subsequently voiced doubts that Maresca will remain in charge for the 2026/27 season, citing the public nature of the manager’s criticism.
Carragher suggested this creates a significant issue, noting:
“I don’t think Maresca is manager of Chelsea next season. I think when you come out and speak on your ownership like that and you start going public, it’s a big problem. I don’t see him there next season.”
Despite his prediction, Carragher acknowledged the Italian’s coaching quality, asserting, “Maresca can go up against any manager as he’s proved. Whether it’s Pep Guardiola, Arne Slot, Barcelona… He’s more than capable tactically and as a top coach.”
Meanwhile, Maresca prepares his side for the Carabao Cup tie against Cardiff, aiming to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
