Tyrique George is reportedly seeking a permanent transfer in January after being substituted at half-time by Enzo Maresca during a difficult Carabao Cup outing against Cardiff City.
Chelsea youngster Tyrique George is reportedly pushing for a permanent exit from Stamford Bridge this January following a ruthless decision by manager Enzo Maresca.
The 19-year-old was substituted at half-time during Tuesday’s Carabao Cup victory over Cardiff City after failing to make an impact against the League One side.
Despite the Blues progressing to the semi-finals, the decision to hook George has significantly strained the relationship between the player and the club.
Maresca defended his decision to withdraw both George and Marc Guiu, noting that fringe players often struggle without consistent match fitness.
“We expected some difficulties in the first half knowing Ty (George) is not playing a lot, Guiu is not playing a lot,” Maresca explained.
“They need minutes to be there.” However, the tactical shift proved successful as senior stars Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro entered the fray to secure the win.
The lack of regular minutes has left George increasingly frustrated, having made only 11 appearances this season.
While Chelsea hierarchy would reportedly prefer a loan deal for the talented teenager, the player is said to be seeking a permanent move, potentially reigniting interest from summer suitors Fulham.
Maresca now faces a difficult task in balancing squad harmony with his uncompromising pursuit of results as the winter transfer window approaches.
