Manchester City await financial rule verdict amidst lengthy independent review

Manchester City’s annual report confirms the club is still waiting for an independent commission to reach a verdict on over 100 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules.

Manchester City have confirmed they are still awaiting the final verdict regarding their 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations.

In the club’s latest annual report, officials noted that the independent commission remains in the deliberation phase more than a year after the formal hearing concluded.

The charges, which were first leveled in February 2023, cover a nine-year period and include allegations of inaccurate financial reporting and failure to cooperate with investigations.

The club has consistently maintained its innocence, asserting that a “body of irrefutable evidence” exists to support its position.

In their financial statements published this week, the club stated: “As at the date of publishing these financial statements the independent commission is still in the process of reviewing the matter.”

This update mirrors the language used in previous reports, signaling that the complex legal process shows no immediate signs of a public resolution.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters has previously called for patience, emphasizing that the league has no control over the speed of the independent judiciary.

Masters explained, “They hear the case, they decide the outcome and we have no influence over it or its timing.”

With the hearing having taken place between September and December of last year, the football world remains in a state of suspense over potential unprecedented sporting sanctions.
