Jeff Shi has vacated his operational role as Wolves chairman amid intense fan pressure and a dire winless streak, handing interim control to Nathan Shi as the club battles to avoid relegation.
Wolverhampton Wanderers executive chairman Jeff Shi has stepped down from his operational duties following a disastrous start to the Premier League season.
With the club currently winless and rooted to the bottom of the table, Shi will transition into a senior role within Fosun Sports Group.
Reflecting on his tenure, Shi stated: “I took the keys to this chair with humility. Today, I step aside with a heart full of gratitude.”
The move follows intense fan protests and accusations of a “managed decline” after the club sold key stars like Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Shi admitted that the rapid squad overhaul may have backfired, noting: “I am not an expert. Maybe we sold too many players in one window… if you can’t control the tempo and need a longer time to rebuild the team the games will punish you.”
Nathan Shi has been appointed as the interim lead to manage day-to-day operations at Molineux.
The new leadership faces an immediate challenge as Wolves prepare to face Brentford, needing a win to avoid matching the Premier League’s record for the longest winless start.
Nathan Shi expressed his commitment to the task, saying: “I believe that together, as one pack, we will move forward with belief, pride, ambition and unity.”
