Liverpool striker Alexander Isak faces a potentially lengthy layoff after suffering a serious leg injury while scoring in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham.
Liverpool are anxiously awaiting the results of an MRI scan for Alexander Isak after the striker sustained a significant lower leg injury during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The Swedish international, who joined for a British record £125 million in the summer, was forced off just 15 minutes after being introduced as a half-time substitute.
The injury occurred during a sliding challenge by Micky van de Ven while Isak was scoring the opening goal.
Reds manager Arne Slot expressed immediate concern regarding the severity of the issue after Isak was assisted off the field by medical staff.
Despite the clinical nature of the goal, the striker did not celebrate and appeared in visible distress.
Speaking after the match, Slot admitted a negative “gut feeling” about the situation, noting, “If a player scores and then gets injured and doesn’t try to come back on the pitch, that’s usually not a good thing.”
The potential loss of Isak comes at a critical juncture for Liverpool, who have climbed to fifth in the Premier League table.
With Mohamed Salah departing for the Africa Cup of Nations and Cody Gakpo also sidelined, the squad’s attacking depth is under immense pressure.
Addressing the lack of clarity, Slot added: “Let’s hope he is back with us soon. Difficult to say to you now. We’ll have to wait and see.”
