AFCON: Captain Ndidi brushes off online noise ahead of Tunisia clash

Wilfred Ndidi addressed the media on Friday during a pre-match press conference ahead of Nigeria’s Saturday Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has dismissed the impact of social media criticism on the Nigerian national team as they prepare for their second AFCON 2025 group match.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday, the veteran midfielder emphasized that the squad remains insulated from external negativity.

Following their 2-1 opening victory over Tanzania, the team’s primary objective is to maintain momentum and secure another win against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

Ndidi made it clear that the players are focused solely on their performance on the pitch. He said, “There will always be negative comments in the social media even when you do well.

So it is not affecting the group, is not affecting anyone.” He further clarified the team’s mindset, stating, “Whatever comes out social media is just people’s opinion, you know. So our own focus is just for the game.”

The captain also acknowledged the deep emotional connection between the team’s results and the Nigerian public.

Recognizing the pressure of representing over 200 million people, Ndidi noted, “We know how it can actually influence Nigerians and their moods.

When we win, everyone becomes happy.” He concluded by reaffirming that the team is prioritizing a positive atmosphere, insisting, “we only focus on the positive at this moment because that’s what we need.”
