Howe ‘hugely disappointed’ by Newcastle profligacy during Man Utd defeat

Manager Eddie Howe voiced his disappointment after Newcastle’s dominant second-half performance failed to produce an equalizer in a 1-0 loss to Manchester United, further bruising their poor away record.

Eddie Howe expressed profound frustration after Newcastle United’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, which extended their winless streak to three matches.

Despite controlling two-thirds of the possession and registering 16 shots, the Magpies were unable to recover from Patrick Dorgu’s first-half volley.

The result highlights a concerning trend for Howe’s side, who have managed just one win in their last 12 Premier League away fixtures, collecting only seven points in that period.

The Newcastle manager lamented his team’s inability to capitalize on a commanding second-half display at Old Trafford.

“The second half was a lot better than the first, but we didn’t do enough. We had to do more,” Howe told Sky Sports.

Reflecting on the missed opportunities, including a Lewis Hall strike that rattled the crossbar, he added, “It was just the goal that was missing. I felt, if we scored, we could go on and win the game.”

Howe also defended Anthony Gordon, who missed two significant chances to equalize and has not scored away from home in nearly a year.

While acknowledging the need for more clinical finishing, Howe praised the winger’s work rate, stating, “I thought he was probably our brightest player in attack.”

The manager concluded that the defeat stemmed from execution rather than tactics, noting, “We’re disappointed with our actions in terms of trying to score and that final finish.”
