Chelsea has opened an investigation into a bottle-throwing incident targeting the Aston Villa dugout following Villa’s comeback 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Football Club is set to launch a formal investigation following reports of a plastic bottle being thrown at the Aston Villa bench during Saturday’s clash at Stamford Bridge.
The incident occurred immediately after the final whistle as Villa celebrated a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Reports indicate that Villa staff and substitutes were soaked with water, prompting security and authorities to begin reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator.
On the pitch, Unai Emery’s side staged a dramatic second-half comeback to maintain their Premier League title charge.
Chelsea took the lead before the break via a Joao Pedro goal, and the hosts were later denied a penalty when a handball by Ian Maatsen was deemed to be in a “justifiable position.”
However, Villa substitute Ollie Watkins shifted the momentum, scoring a rebound and a late header to secure all three points.
The result marks a historic milestone for Aston Villa, who have now won 11 consecutive matches in all competitions, equalling a club record set over a century ago.
The victory leaves Villa just three points behind league leaders Arsenal and firmly in the title hunt.
Chelsea officials have pledged to cooperate fully with Villa and local authorities to ensure the post-match “ugly incident” is addressed with appropriate disciplinary action.
