Keith Hackett has condemned referee Tony Harrington for failing to book Simon Adingra following a heavy challenge that forced Leeds United defender Joe Rodon off with an injury during Sunday’s 1-1 draw.
Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has heavily criticized referee Tony Harrington for failing to book Simon Adingra during Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
The controversial incident occurred when Adingra caught Leeds defender Joe Rodon with a “crunching” challenge on the ankle.
Despite the force of the tackle, which eventually forced the Welsh international off the field, Harrington opted not to issue a yellow card to the former Brighton attacker.
Hackett described the lack of a booking as a failure to uphold the game’s laws, arguing the challenge displayed excessive force.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Hackett said, “To apply no sanction is unacceptable and sends out the wrong message to participants in the game.”
He added that while an earlier challenge by Brian Brobbey required no action, Adingra’s foul “warranted at minimum a yellow card” due to the visible studs.
On the pitch, Daniel Farke’s side fought back from a poor first half to secure a point, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin continuing his scoring streak for the Whites.
While Sunderland have impressed since their promotion, Leeds showed resilience at the Stadium of Light to boost their survival hopes.
However, the potential loss of Rodon to injury remains a significant concern for Farke as the club fights to avoid the drop.
