However, Amorim took a firm stance during Monday’s press conference, stating, “No chance he is going to play against Wolves. No chance. You can write that.”
Despite his absence from the pitch, Amorim praised Fernandes for his continued leadership and presence around the training ground.
The manager joked that the 31-year-old might be eyeing a future in coaching, given his habit of watching teammates train even while undergoing medical treatment.
Amorim remarked, “I don’t know if he wants my job or not, but he’s a leader. The guy is a leader,” emphasizing that his captain remains vocal and engaged.
The loss of Fernandes adds to a growing selection headache for Amorim as United travel to Molineux.
The manager confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt, and Harry Maguire remain sidelined, while Mason Mount is a major doubt after limping off on Boxing Day.
