Ebenezer Akinsanmiro revealed the teammate who helped him most after AFCON 2025 call up

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro has praised the family-like atmosphere in the Super Eagles camp and clarified that his preferred role is as an attacking midfielder ahead of Nigeria’s knockout stage matches.

Inter Milan loanee Ebenezer Akinsanmiro has expressed his delight at the seamless transition into the Super Eagles squad during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 21-year-old Pisa midfielder, a surprise call-up by coach Éric Chelle, described the national team environment as a cohesive unit.

While currently serving as an understudy to veteran midfielders like Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, the youngster is tipped for a larger role as the tournament progresses into the knockouts.

Addressing his integration, Akinsanmiro highlighted the warm reception from the squad and a past encounter with superstar Victor Osimhen during their time in Italy.

The midfielder recalled how the former African Footballer of the Year offered guidance before they became international teammates.

On the pitch, Akinsanmiro also addressed tactical debates regarding his role, firmly stating his preference for a more advanced position in the middle of the park despite his versatility.

“I’m close to everybody. We are like a family, so I’m close to everyone,” Akinsanmiro said, reflecting on the team spirit.

Regarding his previous interaction with Osimhen, he noted: “He came to me and spoke some words of encouragement to me.”

When asked about his specific tactical deployment on the field, the midfielder clarified his preference: “I play midfield anywhere, but I like to play attacking midfield.”
