Strasbourg’s Liam Rosenior the leading candidate for Chelsea job after Maresca exit

Liam Rosenior is the top contender to become Chelsea’s next head coach following the New Year’s Day dismissal of Enzo Maresca.

Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.

Maresca’s departure was confirmed on January 1 following a disappointing December run that saw just one Premier League victory.

Despite winning the Club World Cup and securing Champions League qualification last season, the Italian reportedly held discussions regarding the Manchester City job, contributing to his sudden exit from Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior, 41, is highly regarded by Chelsea’s hierarchy due to his impressive tenure within the BlueCo multi-club model.

Having guided Strasbourg to UEFA Conference League qualification, he maintains strong professional ties with co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.

Chelsea officials believe his coaching philosophy aligns with the club’s collaborative leadership structure, which prioritizes a system-based approach over individual managerial control.

While Chelsea have vetted other candidates, Rosenior remains the favorite to take over the fifth-placed side.

Under-21 coach Calum McFarlane will handle media duties ahead of Sunday’s clash against Manchester City while negotiations continue.

Rosenior remains under contract at Strasbourg until 2028, but his familiarity with the “BlueCo” vision makes him the primary choice to stabilize the West London club mid-season.
