Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that captain Dani Carvajal is nearing a return ahead of Sunday’s home fixture against Real Betis.
After months on the sidelines, the veteran defender completed a full training session, providing a major boost as the club enters the second half of the 2026 season.
“He completed the entire training session,” Alonso noted. “Every team needs influential players, not only because of their experience but also because of what they contribute on and off the field.”
Despite the positive news regarding Carvajal, Los Blancos will be without league-leading scorer Kylian Mbappe.
Alonso remained vague on a specific return date for the French forward, emphasizing that the club is monitoring his recovery daily.
“We’ll keep pushing the timeline. It’s largely about how he feels, and we’re going to do everything possible to get him back as soon as possible,” the coach stated.
Rodrygo is expected to feature heavily in the attack to compensate for Mbappe’s significant absence.
Alonso also addressed the recent departure of young striker Endrick, who has joined Lyon on loan to secure more first-team minutes.
The manager expressed support for the move, highlighting the importance of development for the Brazilian talent.
“At this stage of his career and his phase as a player… he needs to play, and I understand why he made that decision,” Alonso remarked.
