Chelsea have named Liam Rosenior as their new head coach on a six-and-a-half-year contract, shortly after the manager received a court conviction for a speeding offense.
Chelsea have appointed Liam Rosenior as their new head coach on a contract running until 2032, following the abrupt New Year’s Day exit of Enzo Maresca.
The 41-year-old makes the move from Strasbourg, a fellow BlueCo-owned club, where he had guided the team to seventh in Ligue 1.
Reflecting on the appointment, Rosenior admitted, “The reality is Strasbourg is not on the level as Chelsea,” while adding that managing such a “world-class” club was “something I have always dreamed of.”
The appointment comes amid news that Rosenior was recently convicted of speeding and ordered to pay £1,052 in fines and costs.
The former Derby and Hull manager missed a scheduled speed awareness course because of flight delays caused by fog.
In a note to the court, he explained he “had to stay another night and be on a plane the next day during the time of the course,” ultimately accepting the legal consequences of the missed session.
Rosenior becomes the fourth permanent manager under the BlueCo ownership and faces the immediate challenge of revitalizing a squad sitting 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal.
He replaces Maresca, whose tenure ended following poor results and fractured internal relationships.
Preparing for his debut in the FA Cup this Saturday, Rosenior maintained his confidence in the step up, stating, “If I didn’t think I was ready, I wouldn’t have accepted it.”
