Nigeria’s Super Eagles have threatened to boycott their AFCON quarterfinal trip to Marrakech unless the NFF pays outstanding match bonuses for four previous tournament victories.
The Nigeria Super Eagles have threatened to boycott training and their scheduled travel to Marrakech ahead of their AFCON 2025 quarterfinal against Algeria.
The squad is reportedly protesting unpaid match bonuses following victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Mozambique.
This ultimatum follows reports from journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, who noted: “Players and coaching staff of #Nigeria are waiting on #AFCON2025 bonus payments.”
According to reports, the team has decided not to honor their trip from Fes on Thursday unless the financial dispute with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is settled.
Mr. Okeleji warned on social media: “The squad remains focused but will NOT train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if this isn’t resolved.”
When asked for confirmation, team media officer Promise Efoghe declined to comment directly on the journalist’s claims.
This latest strike action marks a recurring issue for the NFF, following a similar boycott during World Cup playoffs just two months ago.
The financial tension adds to internal friction within the camp, following a recent on-field dispute between star forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.
With a high-stakes match against Algeria looming on Saturday, the federation faces immense pressure to resolve the “outstanding financials” to avoid a forfeit.
