Government clears Super Eagles’ AFCON bonuses after boycott threat

The Nigerian government has resolved foreign exchange issues and released all group-stage bonuses to the Super Eagles to avert a strike ahead of their AFCON quarter-final against Algeria.

The Federal Government has announced the successful streamlining of administrative processes to ensure the prompt payment of bonuses to the Super Eagles during the ongoing AFCON in Morocco.

Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, addressed concerns following reports that players had threatened to boycott training and their travel to Marrakech.

She confirmed that foreign exchange bottlenecks involving the Central Bank of Nigeria have been resolved to prevent future payment hitches.

Assuring the team of immediate financial settlements, Uzoka-Anite revealed that all group-stage entitlements have cleared the necessary regulatory hurdles.

To accommodate the squad’s requirements, authorities have implemented a fast-track conversion process for foreign currency payments.

The Minister stated, “All group-stage bonuses have been fully released and cleared required regulatory stages.

There will be no further administrative delays,” noting that the funds are currently being transferred to the players’ various domiciliary accounts.

The government’s intervention aims to stabilize the camp ahead of Saturday’s critical quarter-final clash against Algeria.

By prioritizing player welfare, officials hope to keep the team focused on their competitive goals in Morocco.

Dr. Uzoka-Anite emphasized the state’s commitment to the national team’s success, adding, “Our focus is to support the team as they push toward bringing the AFCON trophy home.” The transfers are expected to reflect in player accounts by Friday.
