Following Aston Villa’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur, attention has shifted to the future of 22-year-old defender Andres Garcia, who has struggled for consistent game time since his arrival from Levante twelve months ago.
Despite being under a long-term contract and previously describing the move as a “dream that every footballer has,” the Spanish youth international has been limited to just three appearances this season while serving as backup to Matty Cash.
With the January transfer window closing soon, a loan move is being viewed as essential for his development, as Garcia himself previously noted: “I think the Premier League is the ideal league for the way I play.
To be able to achieve this at only 21-years-old, it’s a really proud moment for me, as well as a challenge, and to be able to learn from the players that are here in the club is going to be really good for me, and a big step.”
A temporary exit would provide the right-back with the competitive platform he needs to fulfill that potential rather than remaining on the sidelines during Villa’s push for a top-three finish.
