Man United reach agreement to appoint Michael Carrick, announcement pending

Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle to appoint former midfielder Michael Carrick as interim head coach until the conclusion of the current season.

Following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim on January 5, the club’s leadership—including Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe—identified Carrick as the primary candidate to stabilize the first team after he previously served as a caretaker in 2021 and managed Middlesbrough.

Subject to finalizing contract details, Carrick is expected to lead the seventh-placed side in Saturday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford, taking over from Darren Fletcher who stepped in temporarily following recent disappointing results in the Premier League and FA Cup.
