Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has launched a scathing critique of VAR following a controversial disallowed goal for Antoine Semenyo against Newcastle.
Guardiola expressed frustration over the inconsistent application of technology, highlighting two “unbelievable” denied penalties in previous fixtures involving Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku that were never reviewed.
“I don’t understand why… VAR didn’t say anything!” Guardiola exclaimed, referencing specific incidents against Fabian Schär and Malick Thiaw.
He contrasted these ignored shouts with today’s forensic intervention, noting that while officials were quick to check “millimetres” today, they remained silent during clear scoring opportunities at 0-0.
Despite his irritation, Guardiola remained defiant, suggesting the perceived bias would only fuel his squad’s resolve.
“We know how it works, and that will make us stronger,” he concluded, sarcastically adding that he expects an official call to explain the persistent discrepancies.
