Manchester United caretaker manager Michael Carrick has dismissed recent public criticism from former captain Roy Keane as “irrelevant,” insisting that derogatory comments regarding his coaching appointments and his wife, Lisa, have not impacted his preparations.
Addressing the media ahead of his 17-game stint, Carrick brushed off the friction—which stems from a decade-old Champions League dispute and Keane’s recent podcast remarks—stating, “They’re not putting more pressure on me. I don’t feel that.
There are plenty of opinions around, some positive, some not too much. It’s totally irrelevant in terms of what I focus on.”
While Keane questioned the additions of Steve Holland and Jonathan Woodgate to the backroom staff, Carrick confirmed he has the backing of the club’s ownership, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and remains steadfast in his pursuit of European qualification.
Summarizing his stance on the outside noise, the former midfielder concluded, “For me, the players and staff focus on how we’re going to succeed. It didn’t bother me.”
