Cristiano Ronaldo wins legal dispute against Juventus as court upholds verdict

The Turin Labour Court has upheld a legal ruling in favor of Cristiano Ronaldo, confirming that Juventus must pay the Al-Nassr star roughly £8.5 million in deferred wages dating back to the Covid-19 pandemic.

long-running legal battle against his former club Juventus regarding unpaid wages deferred during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A judge at the Turin Labour Court, Gian Luca Robaldo, upheld a 2024 arbitration ruling which determined that the Italian heavyweights were responsible for paying the Portuguese superstar approximately £8.5 million ($11m), representing half of the total net amount the striker claimed he was owed.

The dispute stems from “salary manoeuvres” in March 2020 and April 2021, where players agreed to delay four months’ worth of payments to assist the club’s struggling finances during stadium lockdowns.

Juventus president Gianluca Ferrero had previously confirmed that while the club had already transferred the funds to avoid a risk fund, they intended to contest the shared responsibility, stating in November,

“We don’t agree with this ruling, which established an equal division of responsibilities, so we’ve appealed it at the Turin court.”

However, with the court’s latest decision to dismiss the appeal, the 40-year-old Al-Nassr frontman has successfully protected the payout, although reports from Gazzetta dello Sport suggest the Bianconeri may still consider a final appeal to a higher court to recoup the losses.
