FC Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen has officially joined fellow Catalan side Girona on a loan deal until the end of the season, marking a significant shift in his nearly 12-year tenure with the Blaugrana.
The veteran German goalkeeper, whose relationship with the fans has fluctuated following recent injuries and inconsistent European performances, shared a heartfelt message on social media to commemorate his departure, stating,
“Today is my last day this season with my teammates and the staff at FC Barcelona, and I truly have mixed feelings.”
Despite the move being a temporary loan rather than a permanent exit, Ter Stegen reflected deeply on his legacy at the club, adding, “I’ve had the immense honor of wearing the captain’s armband, something I will carry with me forever.”
While Barcelona moves toward a new era in goal, the 33-year-old remains committed to the region, noting that his “journey continues in Catalunya” as he seeks to regain top form and solidify his position in the German national team ahead of the summer.
