Brighton submit plans for new fencing to tackle security threats at Amex

Brighton and Hove Albion FC has submitted a formal proposal to Lewes District Council to install new two-metre fencing and 12-metre wide gates along the southern perimeter of the American Express Stadium in Falmer.

The planning application, filed under reference LW/25/0495, outlines approximately 160 metres of green fencing along Village Way designed to minimize the stadium’s “vulnerability” and respond to potential “security threats.”

According to the planning statement, the infrastructure is intended to be the minimum necessary to secure the site during specific incidents, though the club stressed that “it will be the intention to keep the gates and pedestrian doors open unless specific circumstances necessitate closure.”

The development is designed to mirror existing fencing at the University of Brighton campus to ensure a consistent aesthetic while having a “limited impact” on the stadium’s surrounding landscaping and daily operations.
