Arsenal have let Man Utd back in this game

Arsenal’s management and control of the game has been terrible.

The match dynamics shifted dramatically after the first half-hour. Initially dominant, Arsenal established a 1-0 lead by controlling play and restricting United to their own half. United then adjusted, playing with greater intensity and a higher defensive line, which disrupted Arsenal’s rhythm and increased the pressure in the second phase of the match.

Unsurprisingly, Michael Carrick was giving little away about his plans for this afternoon’s game.

However, he repeated a point he made in his press conference on Friday, namely that no two halves of football are the same, let alone two games.

So, while Carrick has named the same starting line-up, he has told Sky Sports he expects a different game.

“We have got some different ideas,” he said.

“(The games are) never the same again, one half to the next is different.

“This is a whole new challenge to overcome. They are a good team but we are positive.”

Martin Odegaard has spoken about his excitement at returning to play at the Emirates after four away games in a row for the Gunners.

In his programme notes he says that “we don’t want to think too much about other teams – let’s just do our own job”.

Arsenal are in a commanding position in the league but have had their lead cut to four points by Manchester City’s win yesterday.

They can restore their seven-point lead if they beat Manchester United today.
