Player Ratings | Mbeumo 8, Dorgu 8, and Cunha star as Man United end Arsenal’s unbeaten home run

Manchester United continued their resurgence under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, securing a dramatic 3-2 victory over league-leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite falling behind to a Martin Ødegaard effort that deflected in off Lisandro Martínez, the Red Devils leveled through Bryan Mbeumo following a lapse by Martin Zubimendi.

The second half saw Patrick Dorgu fire United ahead with a spectacular strike, only for Mikel Merino to equalize late on.

However, substitute Matheus Cunha had the final say, curling home a sensational winner in the 87th minute to secure back-to-back big-game wins for Carrick.

The result sees United leapfrog Chelsea and Liverpool into fourth place, becoming the first side this season to overturn a deficit against the Gunners.

Player Ratings

Senne Lammens (6/10):

The goalkeeper produced a vital save from Zubimendi early on and was blameless for the unfortunate own goal. While he commanded his area well for most of the match, he was caught in “no man’s land” during the set-piece that led to Merino’s equalizer. He did recover well to stop a late chance from Gyökeres.

Diogo Dalot (6/10):

It was a quiet offensive night for the Portuguese full-back, who focused primarily on his defensive duties. He was largely successful in his duel with Leandro Trossard, effectively removing the Belgian winger from the game’s narrative.

Harry Maguire (7/10):

The veteran defender provided a sturdy presence in the heart of the backline. He survived a brief VAR scare regarding a possible handball, but his overall positioning was sound as United weathered the late Arsenal storm.

Lisandro Martínez (6/10):

A night of extremes for the Argentine; he was unfortunate to see Ødegaard’s shot deflect off him for the opening goal and struggled at times with the physicality of the Arsenal front line. However, he redeemed himself with a “brilliant late tackle” on Madueke to preserve the lead.

Luke Shaw (7/10):

Tasked with containing one of the league’s most dangerous players in Bukayo Saka, Shaw remained disciplined and focused. His defensive diligence was a key factor in blunting Arsenal’s right-sided attacks throughout the match.

Casemiro (7/10):

Making a start despite his confirmed upcoming summer departure, the Brazilian anchored the midfield with his typical grit. He was particularly effective in defending aerial balls and set-pieces during the high-pressure final minutes.

Bruno Fernandes (7/10):

While not at his most clinical in front of goal—missing a few half-chances—the captain remained the creative hub of the team. His intricate link-up play with Dorgu set the stage for United’s second goal and his work rate was relentless.

Kobbie Mainoo (7/10):

The young midfielder displayed remarkable composure in a high-stakes environment, rarely misplacing a pass. His ability to navigate tight spaces provided the assist for Cunha’s winning goal and stabilized the United engine room.

Amad (6/10):

Though he lacked a decisive final ball on the counter-attack, Amad’s contribution was measured by his defensive effort. He worked tirelessly to track back and support Dalot, ensuring United remained compact when out of possession.

Patrick Dorgu (8/10):

After an initial error contributed to Arsenal’s opener, Dorgu made amends in spectacular fashion. His “incredible half-volley” to put United ahead was a goal of the season contender, and he remained a constant threat until an unfortunate injury forced him off.

Bryan Mbeumo (8/10):

The Cameroonian forward continued his hot streak in big games, scoring his ninth of the season by ruthlessly punishing a Zubimendi error. Beyond his goal, his willingness to defend from the front was vital for Carrick’s tactical setup.

Substitute

Matheus Cunha (7/10):

Took his goal brilliantly and won fouls to take the spirit out of Arsenal
