Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney believes that while Mikel Arteta will be “concerned” by Arsenal’s recent form, the Gunners remain the frontrunners for the Premier League title following their 3-2 home defeat to United.
The North London side saw their advantage at the top of the table trimmed to four points after a dramatic encounter at the Emirates, where goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu, and Matheus Cunha secured a second straight victory for caretaker manager Michael Carrick.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Rooney noted that “Arsenal were a bit nervy and started the second half on the back foot really,” pointing to a worrying trend after recent results against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
Despite the setback, Rooney maintained his stance on the title race, asserting, “I think Arsenal are still title favourites but it will be a concern for [Mikel] Arteta what’s happened in the last three games… But I still think they’re probably slight favourites.”
