Youri Tielemans to miss eight weeks, joins Aston Villa’s growing injury list

Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury during Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans is facing a significant period out of action following an ankle injury sustained during Sunday’s win at Newcastle.

The 28-year-old Belgian international was forced off after a challenge from Lewis Miley, adding to Unai Emery’s growing midfield crisis.

Addressing the situation, Emery stated: “It was his ankle. Hopefully not a lot, but we must check him.”

The injury leaves Villa depleted, with Boubacar Kamara out for the season and John McGinn sidelined for six weeks.

While the club expects the imminent arrival of Tammy Abraham from Besiktas for €21million, the loss of Tielemans has accelerated efforts to bolster the midfield.

Villa are reportedly exploring a loan for Ruben Loftus-Cheek or a sensational return for former star Douglas Luiz.
