Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquetá revealed he prioritized a return to Flamengo despite intense transfer interest from Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham.
Lucas Paquetá has disclosed that he brushed aside interest from Chelsea and Tottenham to pursue a move back to Brazil.
Speaking after sealing a return to Flamengo, the midfielder recalled his agent’s excitement regarding a potential London switch.
“Tottenham called, Chelsea called, and the funny thing is that Tatá called all excited and said: ‘Chelsea is calling, they’re going to make an offer’,” Paquetá shared.
Despite the prestige of the Premier League suitors, the playmaker’s heart remains with his boyhood club. He remained focused on a move to Rio de Janeiro over staying in Europe.
Paquetá admitted his immediate response to the Chelsea news was focused solely on his former team, stating: “I replied: ‘Okay, but what about Flamengo?”
His loyalty highlights a rare preference for home.
