Unai Emery criticized a controversial VAR decision to disallow Tammy Abraham’s debut goal for a marginal out-of-play call, as 10-man Brentford held on to defeat Aston Villa 1-0.
Unai Emery hit out at the “unfair” VAR decision that cost Aston Villa an equalizer during their 1-0 defeat to Brentford.
Tammy Abraham’s debut strike was chalked off after a review judged the ball out of play twenty seconds earlier. “I think it’s not fair,” Emery said. “The goal happened a long time after the initial incident… VAR must not ask the referee in these situations.”
The loss leaves Villa’s title ambitions fading, while Brentford’s Keith Andrews praised his side’s “defensive masterclass” following Kevin Schade’s red card.
Off the pitch, Villa are reportedly renegotiating Harvey Elliott’s loan from Liverpool to avoid a £35million mandatory buy clause.
Emery signaled a quiet transfer deadline day, noting, “If there is something they can improve I know they will do it.”
