Rodri and Pep Guardiola have hit out at “unfair” refereeing decisions following Manchester City’s draw at Tottenham, suggesting the club’s trophy-laden history is influencing officials as Arsenal pull ahead in the title race.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri has alleged a refereeing conspiracy against the reigning champions following a controversial 2-2 draw with Tottenham.
After Dominic Solanke’s equalizer was allowed to stand despite a contested challenge on Marc Guehi, Rodri suggested past success is fueling bias.
“I know we won too much and the people don’t want us to win but the referee has to be neutral,” he stated.
The result leaves Pep Guardiola’s side six points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal with 14 games remaining.
Guardiola echoed his player’s frustration regarding the officiating inconsistency, noting, “If you do it to a striker it would be a penalty.”
While Spurs boss Thomas Frank acknowledged the “grey area” of the decision, City now face a steep climb to retain their title.
