Manchester City to lobby EFL to allow Marc Guehi to play in Carabao Cup final – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has confirmed Manchester City will write to the EFL to request a special rule change allowing cup-tied January signing Marc Guehi to play in the Carabao Cup final.

Manchester City intend to petition the EFL to allow January signing Marc Guehi to feature in the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.

The England defender was ineligible for City’s semi-final win over Newcastle due to a rule requiring players to be registered before the first leg.

Despite the regulation, Pep Guardiola confirmed the club will formally request a waiver for the March 22 showpiece.

Guardiola criticized the “illogical” rule, arguing that a major investment should be available to represent his new club.

While Antoine Semenyo is eligible, Guehi’s arrival from Crystal Palace fell outside the competition’s registration window.

City reached the final with a 5-1 aggregate victory, but Guardiola admitted a successful appeal is unlikely, jokingly predicting the league’s response would be a simple “no.”
