Roberto De Zerbi has stepped down as Marseille manager by mutual agreement following a heavy loss to PSG and a premature exit from European competition.
Roberto De Zerbi has left Marseille by mutual consent following a string of damaging results. The Italian’s departure comes shortly after a 5-0 thrashing by rivals Paris Saint-Germain and a disappointing 3-0 loss to Club Brugge that saw the club exit the Champions League.
Despite finishing second last season, De Zerbi leaves with the side currently sitting fourth in Ligue 1.
The club confirmed the decision was made after discussions between ownership and management to address “sporting challenges.”
In an official statement, the club noted: “Olympique de Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi, coach of the first team, have announced the end of their collaboration by mutual agreement.”
The search for a successor begins as Marseille trails leaders PSG by 12 points.
