PSG stunned in Rennes as host ended champions winning run

Paris Saint-Germain’s seven-match winning run in Ligue 1 was snapped on Friday as a clinical Rennes side secured a 3-1 home victory, leaving the champions’ top spot under threat from Lens.

Rennes produced a masterclass in efficiency to stun Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 at Roazhon Park.

Under the guidance of interim boss Sebastien Tambouret, the hosts capitalized on defensive lapses to take the lead through Mousa Al-Tamari’s fierce 34th-minute strike.

Esteban Lepaul doubled the advantage with a powerful header, and despite a response from Ousmane Dembele, substitute Breel Embolo sealed the win nine minutes from time.

The defeat marks a significant blow for PSG, who now face the prospect of losing the league lead to Lens on Saturday.

Dembele, the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, was vocal about his team’s lackluster performance, stating, “We need to win this kind of match. We need to play as a team, not as individuals.”

He emphasized the necessity of a collective effort, warning that “if we play alone on the pitch, it won’t go well.”
