Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri faces an uncertain future at Marseille after being dropped to the bench following the departure of manager Roberto De Zerbi and escalating club instability.
Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri remained an unused substitute as Marseille’s internal crisis deepened following a 2-2 draw with Strasbourg.
Fans greeted the team with boos and anti-management banners at the Stade Velodrome.
Under interim coach Jacques Abardonado, who replaced Roberto De Zerbi last week, the French giants surrendered a two-goal lead, conceding a 97th-minute equalizer that left the squad described as “wounded.”
The 18-year-old’s developmental loan has stalled following the exit of De Zerbi, the primary advocate for his arrival.
Despite Arsenal’s own injury crisis involving Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz, Mikel Arteta defended the move, stating:
“The best decision for the club, for Ethan, was for him to go and experience a different environment, have minutes played, and get ready to come back to us.”
