Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Aleix Garcia has confirmed that Atletico Madrid made contact during the winter transfer window, though a deal failed to materialize before the deadline.
Aleix Garcia has publicly addressed interest from Atletico Madrid, confirming that formal inquiries were made during the recent winter transfer window.
Despite the 28-year-old remaining a top target for the Spanish giants to replace the departed Conor Gallagher, he remains at Bayer Leverkusen for the remainder of the season.
Reflecting on the failed move, Garcia noted, “I know that there have been calls.”
While Atletico ultimately signed youngsters Rodrigo Mendoza and Obed Vargas to bolster their midfield, Garcia remains a key interest for sporting director Mateu Alemany.
The Spanish international expressed contentment in Germany but left the door open for a future La Liga return.
He maintained a philosophical stance on the collapsed negotiations, stating, “When it sounds and is not done, it is because it did not have to happen.”
